There are many cars on my dream garage wish list and they cover a variety of categories including hypercars, supercars and sports cars along with the luxury chauffeur-driven class where my wife and I could sit back in comfort with a glass of bubbly on route to a extravagant event.
However, a category I really struggle to choose just one car in particular is the Grand Tourer. There are so many GT cars to choose from and for that reason my garage would be full of more tourers cars than any other category.
Autotrader has created their own grand tour with a road test to compare three current models: Aston Martin’s new DB11, Bentley’s Continental GT and the newest member of the touring class, McLaren with their 570GT. They tackle some of Britain’s greatest roads to decide which is the greatest British Grand Tourer.
Out of these three, the Bentley should win hands down as a Grand Tourer. And if I’m honest, despite the car being around for a decade, it would be my first choice. The McLaren I feel is closer to a sports/super car than GT, more comparable to a 911 Turbo S. But, throw the Aston in the mix and I’m torn. I absolutely love the DB9, and the DB11 has brought Aston right up to date with styling and their new Twin-Turbo’d V12 engine.
Put the cars aside, this is a fantastically produced road test. It is beautifully filmed within magnificent scenery. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such a thorough review that has kept me hooked throughout. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend you see it – and let me know, which one would you choose?
